GOL Begins Flights to Paraguay
São Paulo, January 4, 2006 – GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes (Bovespa: GOLL4 and NYSE: GOL), Brazil’s low cost, low fare airline, today began operating daily flights to Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay. Flights will depart from São Paulo’s Guarulhos airport, arriving in Asuncion (Sílvio Pettirossi), with a stop in Curitiba (Afonso Pena), with connections to all destinations served by GOL.
With a population of 6 million, Paraguay’s GDP reached US$ 5.8 billion in 2004. A member of MERCOSUR (the South American trade bloc also comprised of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay), the country’s economy is made up of several sectors, including industry, agriculture, cattle and mining. In 2004, approximately 144 thousand passengers traveled between Brazil and Paraguay.
“As part of our expansion plans in South America, GOL is launching for new international destinations in January 2006: Montevideo, Uruguay; Asuncion, Paraguay; and Cordoba and Rosario, both in Argentina,” says Tarcísio Gargioni, GOL’s Vice-President of Marketing and Services. “GOL remains committed to popularizing air transportation throughout South America.”
