DESCRIPTION:

NEW ORLEANS, July 27, 2021 /3BL Media/ - Entergy Corporation and the Entergy Charitable Foundation have helped power stronger, healthier communities in 2021 by contributing more than $7.6 million to 763 nonprofit organizations across the company’s service area during the first two quarters of the year.

“As the economy begins to rebound and communities start to recover from the economic impact of COVID-19, we are mindful that those most significantly impacted – working families, low-income older adults and people with disabilities – are still hurting,” said Patty Riddlebarger, vice president of Entergy’s corporate social responsibility program. “By working in partnership with community nonprofits, our goal is to provide a hand up to those in greatest need.”

These grants provided funding and support for broad-based initiatives ranging from education and workforce development, to poverty solutions, the arts and community improvement initiatives in regions served by Entergy in Arkansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New York and Texas. All contributions come from shareholder profit.

Significant year-to-date contributions include:

  • $1.3 million in utility bill payment assistance to nonprofit partners who administer Entergy’s The Power to Care. The Power to Care is an Entergy program that helps older adults and people with disabilities keep their lights on when they are facing a financial difficulty. Entergy collects the funds, through shareholder, customer and employee donations, and partners with local nonprofits who then distribute the funds to qualifying customers.
  • $800,000 in employee-matching contributions to United Way organizations located in communities served by Entergy. There is simply no single organization that impacts as many people in as many ways as United Way. That’s why they are one of our most important community partners. Since 2000, Entergy's contributions to United Way have exceeded $44 million.
  • $250,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Entergy’s contribution is earmarked to provide relief for communities that may be impacted by storms and other disasters during the 2021 storm season. Since 2015, Entergy shareholders have committed more than $1.6 million to our communities through grants to local chapters of the American Red Cross and through the company’s support of its Disaster Responder Program.
  • $250,000 to Jobs for America’s Graduates. JAG provides underserved students in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi with wraparound supportive services to help ensure they graduate from high school on time and equipped with the necessary skills to be successful in college or career. This support is part of Entergy’s school-to-career readiness workforce development initiative, which supports programs that focus on increasing high school graduation rates and ensuring students are career- or college-ready when they graduate.

For more than 100 years, Entergy has powered life in our communities through strategic philanthropy, volunteerism and advocacy. Entergy’s corporate social responsibility initiatives help create and sustain thriving communities, position the company for sustainable growth and are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Our top CSR priorities are education/workforce development, poverty solutions/social services and environmental programs. Entergy annually contributes $16-$18 million in shareholder-funded grants to approximately 2,000 nonprofit organizations in the communities where we operate. In addition, our employees volunteer approximately 100,000 hours annually in our communities valued at more than $3 million.
