14 Million Pounds of Recycled Batteries in Home Depot Partnership with Call2Recycle

By: 3BL Media

SOURCE: The Home Depot

DESCRIPTION:

When was the last time you threw away a battery? According to the Environmental Protection Agency, millions are bought and used in the U.S. every year. And with more dependency on battery-powered electronics each year, that number continues to grow.

It’s estimated that at least 3 billion batteries are thrown away each year instead of being recycled properly. The heavy metals and materials in batteries are hazardous to our environment and human health, often leaking toxic chemicals into our soils and oceans from landfills. To help, The Home Depot partners with Call2Recycle making it easy to recycle your rechargeable batteries.

Call2Recycle is a nonprofit battery stewardship program that has been partnering with The Home Depot since 2001 to offer in-store rechargeable battery collection. To date, The Home Depot has helped recycle more than 14.5 million pounds of rechargeable batteries, which is equivalent to the length of 1,600 football fields.

*Editor’s Note: The batteries inside the items listed above are recyclable. Batteries up to 11 pounds and 300 watt-hours are accepted.

Home Depot stores in nearly every state offer this program. To find a location near you, visit http://www.call2recycle.org/locator/.
