Skillfusion, Edtunity, and Virginia Clean Cities Partner on EV Charger Technical Certifications for Veterans in Virginia

Skillfusion, Edtunity, and Virginia Clean Cities Partner on EV Charger Technical Certifications for Veterans in Virginia
The education and certification program, funded by Electrify America, will be used to cover the cost of training 100 veterans on the skills needed to support the growing EV charging network and unlock new career opportunities.

Detroit, MI - SkillFusion, an industry-first software platform for electric vehicle service equipment (EVSE) operations and maintenance (O&M) providers, has announced a partnership with Edtunity Institute and Virginia Clean Cities to provide free EV charger technician credentialing for veterans, members of the National Guard, or military reservists. Individuals will have access to SkillFusion’s first-of-its-kind EVSE skill enhancement and certification. The program provides non-electricians with the needed skills and certifications to carry out specific technical work on EV chargers, such as servicing communication and networking systems.

"Nearly a million service members transition out of the U.S. Armed Forces every four years. While these men and women represent our country’s most valuable and highly trained talent, many struggle to find rewarding careers matching their acquired skills, interests, and desired location,” said Elaina Farnsworth, Co-founder and CEO of SkillFusion. “Through our program, veterans will be specially trained for exciting opportunities within the EV sector and set on a path for success.”

Through an investment by Electrify America announced last fall, Edtunity — working with SkilFlusion — will use the investment toward tuition to train 100 veterans. To date, 50 veterans have started training to receive their certification.

“Electrify America is committed to supporting the workforce of the future through our investments in STEM education and training,” said Robert Barrosa, President and CEO of Electrify America. “Our investment combined with Edtunity’s job placement and SkillFusion’s specialized technical training will help ensure the success of the industry.”

SkillFusion’s groundbreaking credentialing program provides charger-agnostic skill enhancement and certification covering the full spectrum of skills needed to support EV charger operations. SkillFusion’s skill enhancement programs will help people develop a valuable skill set, earn an industry-certified credential, and enhance their professional credibility and work readiness. Once a veteran receives their credential, Edtunity Institute will work towards placing students with service jobs in their area.

"As a non-profit organization, we are extremely grateful for grant opportunities such as this that allow Edtunity to expand our reach and contribute to the community in a positive and impactful way", said Edtunity Founder and CEO, Jimmie L. White. "Our partnership with SkillFusion allows us to offer a fully comprehensive curriculum to veterans and individuals who want to transition into the rapidly growing EV market."

This 20-hour credentialing program signifies that an individual possesses the necessary foundational understanding of electric vehicle infrastructure and maintenance requirements including the ecosystem, communication technologies, software, applications, security, safety, and more — providing an opportunity for employment in diagnostics, non-electrical technical support, and as a critical liaison to electricians, electrical contractors, and EVSE installation program managers.

About Edtunity

Edtunity Institute, formerly Capital Commitment of Virginia, is a non-profit organization established in 2001 in response to the needs of unemployed individuals in the Hampton Roads Area. Its founders saw a rising future in the telecommunications industry. As a result, the founders established a comprehensive job training and education program to support neighborhood-based partnerships to train and employ low-income minority group members in high-skill, high-wage telecommunications trades. The purpose of Edtunity's job training program is to increase the overall participation of community members. Edtunity is focused on building bridges between all segments of the community and the private sector. We work hard to develop partnerships to present opportunities to the unemployed, at-risk youths, veterans, welfare recipients, and single parents through job training and education.
