Senator María Elena Durazo, Pathways LA and Gordon Philanthropies Team Up to Distribute School Supplies to Children

Children Also Will Enjoy a Visit From Los Angeles Rams Cheerleaders and Mascot Rampage

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / July 26, 2024 / Gordon Philanthropies is proud to partner with California State Senator María Elena Durazo (D-26) to provide new backpacks filled with books and school supplies to more than 1,000 children.

This collaborative effort aims to support local students as they prepare for the upcoming school year, ensuring they have the necessary tools for success. The event will take place at 8 a.m. on July 27 at St. Anne's Family Services, 155 N. Occidental Blvd., Los Angeles, California 90026.

"I am excited to be working with Gordon Philanthropies, the Los Angeles Rams, St. Anne's Family Services, and other community partners to continue what has become an annual event in support of children from under-resourced backgrounds," said State Senator Maria Durazo (D-26). "These children are incredible. It is a privilege to support their continued education."

"Pathways LA is thrilled to partner with St. Anne's Family Services and Gordon Philanthropies in making a difference this back-to-school season," said Tamika Farr, CEO of Pathways LA. "Together, we're committed to empowering low-income communities with the tools and resources they need for a successful school year. We're happy to help build a brighter future for our community in need."

The Los Angeles Rams, known for their community engagement, are also excited to be part of this meaningful project with Rams Cheerleaders and mascot Rampage adding to the excitement of the event.

Many families in Los Angeles County lack the financial means to buy school supplies for their children. In 2023, the National Retail Federation estimated that parents spend $890.07 per child during the back-to-school season. For families living below the poverty line, buying school supplies like pencils and notebooks can mean sacrificing essentials like food, rent, and utilities. This annual event helps under-resourced families avoid these tough choices and ensures their children have the necessary supplies for the new school year.

"We are seeing more of our parents struggling to make ends meet. The cost of food, clothing, and housing makes it nearly impossible to provide their kids with necessary school supplies. Gordon Philanthropies provides educational resources to schools that are in underserved and under-resourced communities. We see the struggles that students face due to poverty. This is why we are proud to partner with Senator Durazo who has led the efforts of this event for the last six years and then to have the Los Angeles Rams be a part of this community event is a gift," shared Dan Gordon, founder of Gordon Philanthropies.
