Army Scholarship Foundation Enables Educational Dreams, Creates Future Leaders, Honors Families’ Sacrifices

Corvias Foundation Supports; Scholarships Open January 15

Frequent moves, deployments, and other demands of military life can deeply impact military families. Education is a primary example: approximately 933,000 children in military families are school-aged, which can mean attending up to nine schools between kindergarten and high school graduation. Academic success, despite these challenges, is both possible and something to celebrate and reward.

The Army Scholarship Foundation is doing just that. An entirely volunteer-run foundation, founded in 2001, the Army Scholarship Foundation provides college scholarships to children and spouses of soldiers who serve the nation honorably in the United States Army. Corvias, which has supported military families through its Corvias Foundation since 2006 and consistently works to create an employee culture of giving back, is backing the Army Scholarship Foundation with $25,000 in support.

Al Aycock, Corvias military partnership executive and Corvias Foundation member of the board of directors, explained the decision, saying, “Corvias chose to champion the Army Scholarship Foundation because we want to amplify their work to support military families. In my 37 years of Army experience at Fort Liberty, in U.S. Army posts around the world such as in Korea, and at the Pentagon, the soldiers and their families I have met are the most giving, altruistic, and selfless people I know.”

To excel academically across frequent moves, military families must successfully contend with gaps in learning, inconsistent instruction, feelings of isolation or loneliness during moves, establishing friendships and support systems in new schools, and rebuilding participation in school athletics and extracurricular activities necessary for competitive college applications.

The scholarships support children and spouses of regular active-duty personnel, active-duty Reserve, or active-duty National Guard U.S. Army members in good standing; or, children of former U.S. Army members who received an honorable discharge, medical discharge, or who were killed in action.

“We also appreciate that with the Army Scholarship Foundation, 98% of donated funds go toward scholarships. The scholarship awardees were incredibly talented and deserving. Some would have been unable to attend higher education without a scholarship. Each one was immensely grateful for the opportunity and thankful for the ASF volunteers and donors who made this possible,” Aycock added.
