Northwell Health’s Kevin Tracey, MD, president and CEO of The Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, the home of research at the health system, Kevin Reiter, PA, MD, deputy medical director of Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care and Maureen White, RN, senior vice president and chief nurse executive, have been named Crain’s New York Business’s Notable Leaders in Health Care. “I’m honored to be included on this list with these health care leaders,” said Dr. Tracey. “The mission of the Feinstein Institutes is to produce knowledge to cure disease, and our integration with Northwell Health leaders and faculty is central to our goal of translating science from the lab to the bedside.”

Dr. Tracey studies how the brain and immune system communicate via the vagus nerve to develop therapies for inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease and cancer. His lab’s groundbreaking work led to the first clinical trials of neuromodulating devices to replace anti-inflammatory drugs. Early clinical results indicate this strategy is effective, and also served to spawn a scientific field termed “bioelectronic medicine.” Under Dr. Tracey’s leadership, the Feinstein Institutes has grown to become a leading national biomedical research institution and the global scientific home of bioelectronic medicine.

Dr. Reiter is an urgent care leader working to improve the healthcare industry and access to high-quality care across New York. With over 23 years of experience practicing family medicine, he helped launch a graduate medical education program with Northwell Health for family medicine residents, physician assistants and nurse practitioner students to rotate in Northwell Health-GoHealth centers. He created and formalized a physician x-ray training program.

“As a physician, you learn every day on the job and as a leader it is important to share that knowledge with others,” said Dr. Reiter. “It’s an honor to be among health care’s best and brightest. I look forward to continuing to deliver quality, equal care across all of the communities we serve.”

Northwell’s third executive to be spotlighted on the list is Maureen White. As the health system’s chief nursing officer, Ms. White oversees nursing practice, education, and research across Northwell’s 21 hospitals and more than 900 outpatient facilities. She is a recognized leader in nursing, having served as a faculty member for the Institute of Healthcare Improvement and one of the inaugural members of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB) initiative.

“It’s a privilege to be recognized by Crain’s and to be part of such an impressive group of health care leaders,” said Ms. White. “I’m proud to work alongside the dedicated nurses and staff at Northwell who are committed to educating the next generation of nurses and providing compassionate care to our patients.”

Ms. White is also director of the Northwell Institute for Nursing, which focuses on nursing education, nursing research, creating healthy work environments, and developing future nursing leaders within Northwell.

“As exemplified by Dr. Tracey, Dr. Reiter and Ms. White, leadership is a science and an art. To lead successfully you must do so by example,” said Michael Dowling, president and CEO of Northwell Health. “We are proud to have these esteemed and notable leaders as part of the Northwell family.”

The full list of Notable Leaders in Health Care was published in Crain’s New York Business and can be read here.
