The "Bangladesh Construction Market Size, Trends, and Forecasts by Sector - Commercial, Industrial, Infrastructure, Energy and Utilities, Institutional and Residential Market Analysis to 2028 (H2 2024)" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering.
The Bangladeshi construction industry's growth is expected to slow from 9.5% in real terms in 2023 to 6.2% in 2024, owing to a fall in foreign direct investment (FDI), coupled with the slow implementation of the Annual Development Program (ADP). According to central bank data, released in May 2024, Bangladesh received BDT358.5 billion ($3 billion) in FDI in 2023, a decrease of 14.3% compared with the BDT417.7 billion ($3.5 billion) received in 2022.
According to the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED), the allocation under the ADP for the fiscal year (FY) 2023-24 (July 2023-June 2024) was BDT2.5 trillion ($21.3 billion), of which, government ministries and departments were able to spend only BDT1.5 trillion ($12.3 billion) in the first 11 months of FY2023-24. Additionally, the current political instability is expected to weigh on the construction industry in the short to medium term, with new investment deterred and progress on ongoing projects delayed.
Over the forecast period, the Bangladeshi construction industry is expected to register an annual average growth rate of 5.7% from 2025 to 2028, supported by investment in energy, transport, industrial and telecommunication infrastructure projects. The industry's growth will also be supported by the implementation of the ADP, worth BDT2.7 trillion ($23 billion), which was approved by the Bangladeshi government in May 2024, for the upcoming FY2024-25.
