Gibbs Law Group is Suing TikTok and Other Apps on Behalf of Harmed Children and Families

Lawsuits Allege Social Media Apps are Causing Depression, Anxiety and Other Health Injuries in Children and Teenagers

Gibbs Law Group represents children and their families in lawsuits alleging that they have been harmed by addiction to TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, and other social media platforms. The lawsuits allege that these social media companies purposely designed their platforms to be defective and dangerous, with addictive algorithms and features that may cause a wide variety of harms in children and teens, including:

  • Depression;
  • Anxiety;
  • Eating disorders;
  • Sleep disorders, and
  • Suicidal tendencies.

These lawsuits seek compensation for families to hold social media companies accountable for harming children and teens.

Case Background

Insider accounts and health experts have increasingly sounded the alarm over social media's increasing effects on children's well-being. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, suicide rates for young people are now up nearly 60%. In the ten years leading up to 2020, there was a 40% increase in high schoolers reporting persistent sadness and hopelessness, and a 36% increase in attempts to take their own lives. In a recent interview with CNN, he explained that when it comes to pitting children's willpower against social media's addictive algorithms and "some of the best designers and product developers in the world," it's "just not a fair fight." And at a recent Congressional hearing, one senator stated that social media companies like TikTok “have a product that’s killing people,” and another senator criticized TikTok for failing “to police themselves at our kids’ expense.”

Parents are filing lawsuits against TikTok and other social media companies to hold those companies accountable for the harms caused to their children. If your child has been harmed by social media apps, Gibbs Law Group may be able to help.

“We are committed to fighting for the rights of those children and families who have been harmed from social media use,” said Steve Lopez of Gibbs Law Group. “We will continue to zealously advocate to hold those responsible accountable.”

Gibbs Law Group's Leadership Among Social Media Lawyers

Gibbs Law Group is leading trailblazing fights to hold social media companies accountable for the harm they cause. TikTok and other social media platforms claimed that they were immune from certain legal claims and argued that these lawsuits should be dismissed, but our law firm successfully argued that the lawsuits should be allowed to move forward. These noteworthy legal victories were featured in BBC, Bloomberg Law, Reuters, The Verge, and more.
