Evanston Writer’s Workshop Is Back For The First Time Since COVID

By: Get News

Evanston Writer's Workshop has just brought back its In The Trenches 2023 Workshop for the first time since COVID! This year, the conference will be adding some new features, including: Guest of Honor and Keynote speaker Soman Chainani, a private class with Voice Actor Carlos Ferro, a collaborative partnership with 4 Horsemen Publishing, and a more extensive guest list and class list then ever before. The 2023 workshop will be at the Hyatt Regency in Deerfield, IL and can be found online at https://www.inthetrenches2023.com/

When we reached out to Evanston Writer's Workshop and asked what the goals are for the workshop in its first year back, and what makes it unique, Board Member James Dobbs said: “Our workshop is designed to help aspiring writers develop their craft and achieve their literary goals. We offer a variety of classes and workshops led by experienced writers, publishers, and editors. Our curriculum covers all aspects of writing, from fiction and nonfiction to screenwriting and poetry. We also offer a variety of support services to help our members succeed. These include informal one-on-one mentoring, group workshops, and networking opportunities. As to what makes this year unique, what jumps out at me is the addition of the personalized course with Carlos Ferro he will provide coaching and instruction and attendees will even be able to take home a recording of the process! Personally, I am excited to see our attendees there again after the long hiatus.”

Evanston Writer's Workshop is rather unique in that it is a 501c3; the conference, like all the rest of EWW's initiatives, is being done on a not-for-profit basis to build up the community and writers it serves.  Founder Debbie Fligelman has worked extremely hard to keep the focus on the writers and the value of the workshop. To facilitate that, the Evanston Writer's Workshop worked with the Hyatt Deerfield and got room rates discounted to $110 per night, and anyone who gets a room gets $100 off their registration cost.

We reached out to Ms. Fligelman  and asked about her first show post-COVID and she said “Of course I was SO excited to announce that our Guest of Honor for this first show back would be Soman Chainani, the writer of the NYT Bestselling books and the #1 Netflix movie: School for Good and Evil. His books of retold fairy-tales are innovate and fresh takes on classic stories and tropes. It is also incredible to have someone who debuted on the New York Times Bestseller has been there for 44 weeks teaching and speaking at our workshop.

Along with Soman, I am so proud to have a line-up of amazing authors and editors from major publishing houses, with more being added all the time. We will be having informal one-on-one discussions and pitch sessions with editors. Our speakers will also be teaching classes and holding panels on a wide range of topics. My goal has been not only to build the exact kind of workshop that I need to attend to become a better and stronger writer myself, but to offer a huge variety of courses, panels, and workshops in a collaborative environment.”
