Luxury West Sussex Wedding Venue, Southend Barns, Launches Carbon Neutral Packages

Southend Barns, a rural and romantic wedding venue tucked away close to Chichester, has released details of a new Green to Graze wedding package designed for couples keen to embrace values of sustainability and eco-friendliness within their special day.

The family-owned business developed its carbon-neutral weddings in response to demand from couples selecting the unique venue due to its green credentials and looking for options to create a low or zero-carbon celebration without any impact on the environment.

Carbon Neutral Green to Graze Weddings at Southend Barns

As the latest of the venue’s flexible packages, Green to Graze extends the variety of wedding solutions that remove the stress and complexity of trying to organise each element of a wedding or civil ceremony individually – and with the added benefit of a static price for transparency.

Southend Barns has combined the farm to fork ethos of Southern Farms with the venue's reputation for luxury weddings, hosting private events in a tranquil countryside setting while delivering exceptional quality, personalised services, and the finest local catering ingredients.

First established in 2011, the business has long been committed to sustainability, converting listed buildings on the site sensitively and respectfully, and breathing fresh life into the Threshing Barn and Dairy Barn using recycled materials, efficient heating and insulation.

The venue also uses a biomass boiler throughout the buildings within the site, relies on a series of solar panels to provide clean, sustainable energy, and provides guidance for couples wanting a wedding that represents their partnership, with several menu options that can be adjusted to cater to dietary and lifestyle requirements.

Southend Barns Blends Regenerative Farming With Luxury Eco-Friendly Weddings

Alongside restoration projects, the family owners of the neighbouring farm switched to regenerative farming processes across the entire 500 acres of land, introducing eco-friendly methods to restore the nutrition in the soil, support natural ecosystems, and contribute to biodiversity.

Wedding couples and guests can be assured that many of the ingredients used in their catering menus, appetisers, and after-dinner treats are grown without chemicals, including the wheat grains used in baking by the Southend Barns Roots Catering team and now stocked in several high-end restaurants and retailers.

With an aspiration to achieve formal net-zero status, the wedding venue and farm recognised how this underlying work tied into the priorities of their guests, introducing new measures to reduce and offset carbon production, including:

  • Expanding the diverse vegetables, herbs and berries grown on-site, and creating all possible condiments and sauces from scratch with seasonal menus based on the time of year.
  • Procuring other local, unprocessed foods with Red Tractor accreditation to reduce food miles and fuel usage and ensure ingredients are sourced from traceable supply chains.
  • Producing additional resources like honey and ice cream in-house – using the farm’s own beehives and reducing plastic usage with refillable glass bottles.

Couples interested in learning more about carbon-neutral weddings, how Southend Barns and Southend Farms can host sustainable celebrations, and the efforts of the catering, farming, and event management teams can discuss these efforts in more detail during an in-person visit.

Booking a Carbon Neutral Wedding in West Sussex

Demand for sustainable wedding celebrations has soared in recent years, with many local couples looking for the attention to detail and environmental consciousness the Southend Barns events team is known for.

Clearly priced wedding packages include customisable venue styling, delicious menus, private accommodation for the couple, and refreshments alongside use of the extensive grounds.

Dan Clarke, Executive Chef & General Manager of Southend Barns says: “Being on a farm that has now diversified into regenerative farming, we wanted to offer our couples something different, a real USP for our venue to be able to offer Carbon neutral weddings that encapsulates a traditional wedding day.

Dates remain available between October and December 2024, and January and March 2025, although with limited capacity, since the venue, on-site accommodation, in-house catering and renovated barns are offered for the exclusive use of each couple and their invited guests.

With the peace of mind that even the most lavish or intimate wedding is designed with the environment and carbon neutrality in mind, these dates are expected to sell out swiftly.
