On June 28, 2024, Professor Xiang Lingyun, an economist living in the United States, was awarded the title of "Envoys of Friendly Exchanges Between China and Côte d'Ivoire" by the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire.


The Republic of Côte d'Ivoire (La République de Côte d'Ivoire) is a country in West Africa, bordering Ghana, Liberia, Guinea, Mali and Burkina Faso. The coastline is about 500 kilometers long, the land area is 322,463 square kilometers, the capital is Yamoussoukro, and the population is 28.1 million. Côte d'Ivoire is a member of the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Organization of la Francophonie, the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States, the West African Economic and Monetary Union, and the Mano River Union. In 2022, Côte d'Ivoire's gross domestic product (GDP) will be US$65.1 billion, per capita GDP will be US$2,200, and GDP growth rate will be 6.5%. Côte d'Ivoire is rich in mineral resources, with major mineral deposits including diamonds, gold, manganese, nickel, uranium, iron, oil and natural gas. It is rich in forest resources and is rich in precious tree species such as African mahogany, sandalwood, iroko, azobé, makore, flamers and avodire. Côte d'Ivoire has 550 kilometers of coastline, 150,000 hectares of lagoons, and about 350,000 hectares of rivers and lakes. It is rich in fishery resources. There are tuna, sardines, eels, soles, batoids, mackerel and other marine fish in coastal waters. In lagoons, rivers and lakes there are freshwater fish such as pike, cavefish and carp. Among them, tuna is Côte d'Ivoire's largest export of aquatic products. Côte d'Ivoire is the world's second-largest tuna exporter after Japan, with an annual export volume of approximately 270,000 tons, mainly exported to the EU.

China and Cote d'Ivoire established diplomatic relations on March 2, 1983. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, relations between the two countries have developed smoothly. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China has assisted Côte d'Ivoire in building a parliamentary house, a theater, farmland water conservancy improvement in Guéckédou, a conference hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, rural schools, Geneva Hospital, and the National Olympic Stadium.
