Pillir Shows SAP Users How to Optimise Goods Receipt Reversal in New Guide

As Goods Receipt Reversals are sometimes necessary in warehouse management, the low-code/no-code cloud-native platform takes users through the proper steps of this important SAP process.

Pillir, the leading provider of low-code supply chain solutions, sheds light on the steps to optimising the goods receipt reversal in SAP EWM or other warehouse management systems.

According to the company, there may be several reasons warehouse departments might need to return goods to the suppliers for credit—for example, when goods fail to meet quality standards and the supplier is incapable of replacing them on time.

If necessary, enterprises can execute a reversal posting for a goods receipt following a few steps that may vary slightly based on the unique system configuration of a company, adds Pillir.

Upon pulling up the purchase order of the goods receipt required to reverse, a dedicated warehouse employee needs to find the material document number.

The next step is to use the transaction MIGO and select “return delivery,” followed by giving a reason behind the goods movement.

The dedicated warehouse employee can either post or save the recorded information.

Finally comes locating goods, issuing a return transfer order, and preparing the selected goods for return, explains the company.

SAP goods receipt reversal enables warehouse employees to successfully reconcile the cost of reverse goods receipt delivery when valuated differently in SAP and account for rebates or refunds.

If a goods issue processing has already been executed, the goods receipt can only be reversed once the goods issue reversal is completed, explains the company.

Pillir urges enterprises to set thought-out policies specific to their system configuration for efficiently reversing goods receipt.

A spokesperson from Pillir says, “for example, if a system is configured to immediately match the purchase order, goods receipt, and invoice, and the invoice is paid, the company will need to set policies for how to issue an SAP reverse goods receipt after invoicing.”

SAP enables automation for data sharing and reconciliation critical to goods receipt reversal for an accelerated process. However, due to employees being integral to the process, they need to be proactive in addressing discrepancies, figuring out low-grade goods, and entering the right data to start the reversal accurately.

But a warehouse running on paper-based processes is susceptible to errors, such as inaccurate posting of goods quantity, matching a quantity to the wrong purchase order, and more. On top of this, unlike a digital process, such a time- and labour-intensive manual process of data entry lacks visibility, thus decreasing warehouse efficiency.

Using mobile apps while performing warehouse processes like goods receipt reversal can be a solution. But building mobile apps, however, has been a great challenge that faces today’s warehouses and SAP-centric enterprises.

Even though SAP Fiori may offer some advantages, apps developed with Fiori cannot provide the level of customisation most modern warehouses require, explains Pillir.

Pillir suggests warehouse teams leverage ready-to-deploy highly configurable applications to overcome warehouse management challenges efficiently.

Built on industry best practices, Pillir’s suite of Warehouse Management apps provide all the essential functionalities as well as offline capabilities that teams need to run their warehouse processes while driving innovation in their SAP business applications.

Including apps for goods movement and storage bins management, physical inventory management, planning, and monitoring, pick, pack, and ship; and door, pallet, and delivery maintenance, Pillir’s Warehouse Management apps suite helps bolster productivity, slash warehouse costs, and achieve faster fulfilment.

Developed on Pillir’s low-code platform, the apps can be used on any rugged, mobile, or RF device, out of the box or quickly customised to specific processes, like following enterprise-specific policies for goods receipt reversal in SAP EWM.

In addition, a platform deeply integrated with SAP, Pillir frees warehouses from developing OData connectors for seamless data flow from mobile apps to their ERP systems.

To quote a client, “We developed and deployed over 15 apps using Pillir in only a few months. These apps work regardless of internet connectivity – as some of our processes take place in locations with no connectivity We now have increased operational efficiency.”
