AI Global Launches Responsible AI Certification Beta, Announces Rebranding

Independent Responsible AI Certification system to work as a symbol of trust across industry sectors and regions around the world.

WASHINGTON - April 28, 2021 - (Newswire.com)

AI Global, a non-profit focused on advancing responsible AI, announced the beta launch of an independent and community driven Responsible AI certification system at George Washington University's Bicentennial event today.

The company also announced a rebrand to its name and visual identity as the Responsible AI Institute (RAI, pronounced as "ray") to solidify its stance as a leading nonprofit focused on building and distributing tangible governance tools that accelerate the design, development and use of responsible AI.

"The RAI Certification beta launch, along with the rebranding is a major milestone for the organization as AI adoption and risk accelerate globally," said Manoj Saxena, Chairman, Responsible AI Institute. "They highlight our contributions and reputation over the past four years in building community-driven guardrails and tools for advancing responsible AI and reinforce our vision for this critically important area of trustworthy and ethical AI."

Responsible AI (RAI) Certification Beta

The RAI Certification beta is a culmination of over two years of community-based work to operationalize the OECD's five Principles on Artificial Intelligence, which promote AI that is innovative, trustworthy and respects human rights and societal values.

Built with the help of over 200 AI policy, legal, audit, data science, and business experts, plus the collaborative guidance of the World Economic Forum and University of Toronto's Schwartz Reisman Institute, RAI Certification is planned as an independent, authoritative certification program and a symbol of trust working across sectors and regions around the world.

The RAI Certification Beta was collaboratively designed and piloted with leading global brands including American Express, Anthem, BEACON, CognitiveScale, Data Nutrition Project, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, and universities such as the Center for Responsible AI at NYU, University of Alberta, University of Texas, Queens University, the University of Montréal, Oxford Brookes University and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Through active participation in leading international standardization and policy-making efforts related to AI, the RAI Certification is poised to drive responsible innovation, economic growth and enable compliance with emerging AI regulations.

Quotes from RAI partners

"We're delighted to be working with RAI toward an independent and community-developed AI certification program," says Mark Caine, Lead Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, World Economic Forum. "RAI will provide organizations the right guard rails not only to preserve trust and avoid harm, but also enable organizations to innovate and drive better societal outcomes with AI."

"The continued emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies presents an exciting opportunity for Anthem to explore the development of next-generation products and services," said Rajeev Ronanki, SVP and CDO, Anthem. "As one of the initial charter members of RAI, we are thrilled to see this community grow through active collaboration and are pleased to provide our insights and expertise by participating in the RAI Certification beta pilot."

"Failing to operationalize AI in a responsible and ethical manner is a threat to the bottom line," said Seth Dobrin, Global Chief AI Officer, IBM. "At IBM we have a long-standing commitment to building trustworthy technologies and we are delighted to further that mission by partnering with RAI and serving as a board advisor."

"Without trust, artificial intelligence cannot deliver on its potential value. Independent Certification such as the RAI Certification help strengthen governance and controls to build user trust and accelerate adoption and business impact of AI," said Cathy Cobey, EY Global Trusted AI Leader. "As a recent addition to RAI's advisory board, I look forward to bringing my expertise and global perspective to the important work underway at RAI Institute."

Design agencies argodesign, fishbowl design and Yellow Pencil were instrumental in capturing the mission of the Institute and translating it to a public-facing identity and website. The visual identity and branding were designed to work effortlessly across digital and physical channels, and the new logo evokes a feeling of equality, trust and guardrails while the simple black and white colors signify independence and clarity.
