To increase the chances of a successful vasectomy reversal, a sample of the fluid from the testicular end of the vas is examined under a microscope. This fluid should contain sperm because the testicle continues to make sperm even after the vasectomy procedure. There are three possible scenarios. The first one, which is the best situation, is that whole sperm is found in the sample fluid. The second one, which is the more common situation, is that the fluid is thin and contains no whole sperm but only sperm parts. The third possibility is that the fluid is thick and doesn’t contain any sperm.

The third situation is what is known as an epididymal blowout, which is an obstruction at two levels. One possibility is an obstruction at the vasectomy site and the other possibility is a rupture of the tube in the epididymis. In such a situation, the surgeon will need to perform a vasoepididymostomy in addition to the vasovasostomy. The method for the vasoepididymostomy is a microscopic invagination of the epididymal tube into the lumen of the vas deferens and this requires 10-0 nylon sutures. It is important to note that there is no additional cost if both repairs have to be performed because of the all-inclusive costs offer.
