Baltimore Attorney Comments On Baltimore Bridge Collapse Of Francis Scott Key Bridge

Location: Baltimore, Maryland – Early Tuesday, the Francis Scott Key Bridge, a significant artery in Baltimore, was severely damaged and partially collapsed after being struck by a large container ship. The incident led to vehicles and individuals falling into the Patapsco River, prompting an immediate and extensive search and rescue operation.

Baltimore bridge collapse lawyer, Aaron Blank, Esq., of Blank Kim Injury Law stated: "I want to express our deepest concerns and sympathies for all those affected by the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. This event is not only a significant loss to our community but also a sobering reminder of the unexpected dangers that can arise in our daily lives. Baltimore City Fire Chief James Wallace reported an "active search and rescue" mission, involving the Coast Guard. According to Wallace, the rescue efforts are focused on potentially seven missing individuals, using sonar to detect submerged vehicles. The operations cover areas on and in the water, as well as on the deck of the ship involved.

The bridge's collapse has resulted in at least two individuals being rescued from the water; one of whom is in very serious condition and currently receiving treatment at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Maryland Governor Wes Moore has declared a state of emergency and is coordinating with federal resources to support the ongoing rescue efforts.

Initial reports from the Baltimore Fire Department indicated that the vessel lost power before striking the bridge column. The impact caused significant structural damage and a mass casualty event. There were also reports of construction workers on the bridge at the time, who were engaged in concrete repairs.

The Department of Transportation, along with the FBI, have investigated and found no connections to terrorism. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas confirmed the lack of any intentional act behind the incident.

The cargo ship, identified as the Singapore-flagged Dali, was en route from Baltimore to Colombo, Sri Lanka. All crew members are reported safe and accounted for. The National Transportation Security Board is set to investigate the collapse further.

The Maryland Transportation Authority has closed all lanes of the bridge, impacting daily commuters and urging travelers to seek alternate routes.
