California Company Recalls Complete Line of Products Due to Salmonella Concerns

By: WebWire

A California company recently announced a voluntary recall of all their food products. It includes multiple types of brie, an artichoke spinach dip, and a vegan ranch dressing. The announcement was posted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) recall list and states that the agency has preliminary confirmation of Salmonella in the brie products containing cashews.

The company also reported it is working with the FDA to isolate the source of the pathogen in samples collected by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). The recalled products were distributed primarily to independently owned grocery stores in Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Texas, as well as directly to consumer.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that is frequently associated with several common foods, including various soft cheeses. Most people who become infected develop diarrhea, vomiting, fever, chills, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness typically lasts 4 to 7 days and most people recover without treatment. For some, the condition can be severe, requiring hospitalization. Tragically, hundreds of deaths are also linked to Salmonella infections each year across the country.

“Some groups of people are more at risk if they accidentally consume Salmonella contaminated foods,” said Joseph Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at LA Testing. “That list includes young children, the elderly, and people with a weakened immune system. At LA Testing, our network of laboratories provides rapid PCR testing and traditional culturing methods. These services assist consumers and food manufacturers.”
