Trust Is Key For Worker Productivity, Regardless Of The Type Of Work Environment

United States - June 9, 2022 /MarketersMEDIA/

As the work-from-home (WFH) debate rages, with even the likes of Elon Musk offering their opinions, many companies are struggling to determine which route to take. For some industries like construction and hospitality, WFH is generally not an option. But, for businesses where the digital workspace is possible, discussions have become quite heated on whether or not workers should be required to return to the office full-time.

Practically speaking, it is often easier to manage a workforce when all members and managers are physically present within a single location. Managers can see in real-time whether or not an employee is doing their job, and employees have immediate access to supervisors. Physical presence promotes communication and productivity.

With the help of employee tracker software, however, companies are finding it easier to track worker productivity and better manage resources, time, and projects accordingly. Not all remote employees are fond of such software, though, as many fear that employers may overstep boundaries and use the technology to undermine their privacy, freedom, and creativity.

It stands to reason, then, that businesses that are able to trust their employees to work well and meet deadlines, regardless of where they are conducting their work, are likely to achieve better outcomes. Similarly, remote employees who can trust their employers to use monitoring software responsibly are more likely to work well within the established online workspace.

Instead of placing a hyper focus on the office vs remote work discussion, companies attempting to make the right choice for their particular business and employees would do well to first determine the ways in which trust can be built on both sides. Once trust between employees and managers has been established, a business is likely to flourish, regardless of whether employees are based on-site or working from home.
