Young High School Student, Abhinav Reddy Develops Web-Based Application to Show Data on Controversial Political Topics by State

PoliSent is a web-based application that uses data sourced from Pew, Stanford, and PRRI to source per-state data into an interactive map that shows sentiment and opinions towards various controversial topics by state

United States - October 26, 2022

Political and voter apathy has been growing in the United States over the years. Several studies identify different levels of political and voter apathy from the bystanders who never get involved at all to the interested bystanders who are concerned about politics but never voice out their opinion or support. Highlighting the need to solve the problem of political apathy in the United States, Abhinav Reddy, a high school student who is processing his admission to major in Political Science is pleased to announce the launch of his web-based app, PoliSent.

Although young, Abhinav Reddy has worked in politics for a few years and has always sought to improve civic participation through voter registration drives, public policy proposals, phone banking, and canvassing. He has studied the US political terrain as regards the participation of the people and discovered that voter education and political participation must be taught across all quotas of the nation. As part of his contribution to this goal, Abhinav has released a couple of technological products to motivate Americans out of political apathy with the recent being PoliSent.

With PoliSent, users can find out what Americans around the country think about pre-selected topics on the app’s database. The app uses data from three sources—Pew, Stanford and PRRI—to create an interactive map that shows sentiment toward different controversial topics by state. Hence, an average user can be sure what people in other parts of the United States think about topics like abortion, government aids, immigration reform, climate change, same sex marriage, environmental matters, and so on.

It is also a handful tool for researchers, journalists, and students who want to perform studies on the political trend in the United States and what people think about existing policies and structures. For Abhinav, the goal is to reinforce the need for political participation among Americans and he is developing these technological products based on his understanding of U.S. politics from his studies over the past years.

Aside from PoliSent, Abhinav Reddy has launched other technological products including PoliTrack, an algorithm that analyzes the tweets sent out by American legislators and Proposal App, a web-based application that empowers Americans to create and pass policy proposals through municipal, state, and federal systems.
