New Use Energy Supports Solar Trailer Build for AY Young's Battery Tour

By: PRLog

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Aug. 19, 2021 - PRLog -- New Use Energy and it's core not-for-profit partner, Footprint Project, recently teamed up with Kansas City based musician AY Young to build a solar powered trailer for Young's up and coming Battery Tour.

The build took place at the Young family's urban farm and took place over a three day period with volunteer's from NUE, Footprint Project, Simpliphi, and the Battery Tour.  A  5x10 ft cargo trailer, donated by Footprint Project was towed down from Minneapolis by team members from NUE and Footprint Project.  NUE donated one of their new SunKit Nexus's, a flexible pre-wired solar powered generator with a 2kW inverter.   NUE also donated a SunFreeze (solar powered DC freezer) to go with the setup.  The trailer was outfitted with three 350 Watt solar panels (installed on the top of the trailer frame).

AY Young is no stranger to portable solar generation.  He has been powering his concerts with solar energy for the last decade- starting with a small DIY suitcase-sized solar generator, which he built himself.  AY's mission is to bring awareness to clean energy storage and sustainable energy practices through his music and the way he powers it.  AY is one of seventeen United Nations Young Leaders for SDGs (https://www.unite2030.com/ydp5) (Sustainable Development Goals).  He founded the Battery Tour, a series of concerts powered by solar energy that will take place across the country starting next spring, to promote these goals.

"Working with New Use Energy was nothing less than extraordinary," said Young.  "The energy of every volunteer and person involved really exceeded all expectations and set the tone for the build.  It takes a village to change the world, and in my case it took New Use Energy.  Collaboration was key. Simpliphi, Footprint Project, the Battery Tour, and New Use Energy all came together with one goal- build a trailer today, power the world of tomorrow. We didn't just ace our mission, we built an impact model that will get the world plugged in."

NUE and Footprint Project have been building solar powered trailers since 2018. Together, to date, they have designed and built seven trailers which are staged across the country, strategically placed in climate disaster prone areas like California, Louisiana, Texas, Puerto Rico and Tennessee.  "We build these trailers to help those in need, without any access to power, when a natural disaster strikes," said Nate Heegaard, cofounder of NUE.  We are honored and couldn't be more excited to help AY show the world what sustainable energy generation looks like as he tours the country promoting the United Nations 17 SGDs using his passion, his music, as an outlet for change."

NUE engineers and manufactures affordable solar+battery systems which replace traditional fossil fuel alternatives such as portable generators. NUE's business model has two key aspects: 1) Integrated energy systems, such as its SunKit™ product line, and 2) New and repurposed lithium battery packs and other energy system components. NUE emphasizes mobility as well as field serviceability to maximize the usable life of our products. Advantages of NUE's products include speed of deployment, simplicity of the technology and sustainability of the solution. NUE's customers include remote communities unserved or underserved by utilities, communities impacted by natural disasters and businesses or individuals seeking a clean, quiet and secure source of remote or emergency power. NUE has a strategic relationship with FootprintProject.org whose mission is to help communities affected by disasters build back greener by powering relief and recovery operations using solar energy.
