One of the most common questions microblading artists are asked is ‘Do I need to shave my eyebrows off for microblading?’. When receiving some types of micropigmentation, the results will look the most realistic when all the hair has been removed from the area. The technique of microblading is somewhat different from other forms of micropigmentation.

Firstly, let me answer your question. Under absolutely no circumstances should someone be asking you to remove your natural brow hairs before a cosmetic treatment or even remove your brow hairs for you themselves! From my research, I have discovered this was a widespread request made by eyebrow tattoo artists in the Philippines around 20-30 years ago, where they shave off your entire eyebrow with a razor! This is so far from what microblading is all about. Do not shave, pluck, wax, or thread your whole eyebrow off. Ever. Unless advised by a doctor.

The Procedure

Rather than using a cosmetic tattoo machine, microblading is done using a handheld, manual tool. A small blade is made up of numerous needles, and this blade is then used to create strokes in the skin, which are then filled with pigment to mimic the look of individual brow hairs.

The Result

Microblading creates fantastic natural-looking eyebrows that enhance your natural facial features and blend with your existing brow hairs. Not only is microblading used to create brows for those with minimal brow hairs it is also great for those with sparse brows. The strokes appear crisp and realistic. Your eyebrows will never look so perfect. And as a bonus, they will be waterproof and smudge-free.

Before Care

  • Do not have any Botox treatments three weeks prior to your procedure.

  • Do not have a chemical peel sixty days before having microblading, as your new brows will peel quicker due to chemicals traveling under the skin.

  • Do not use any retinol, Retin-A, or other anti-aging or acne creams or serums containing acids, as these will fade brows prematurely.

  • Do not work out or sweat excessively on the day of the procedure.

  • Do not tan or have a sunburned face the day of the procedure.

  • Do not have any waxing or tinting on your brows three days before the procedure.

  • Stop taking any aspirin, niacin, vitamin E, fish oil, CoQ10, and ibuprofen forty hours before your procedure.

  • Do not consume alcohol or caffeine twenty-four hours before the procedure.

Contraindications

A contraindication of microblading is something that serves as a reason not to have the procedure
