As many people begin to age, whether male or female, their hair may start to lose density. But why does hair thin as we get older? And is there something we can do about it?

It is normal to lose around 100 hairs a day, but as you get older, this speeds up and makes the hair look thinner, especially at the crown. Hair growth also slows and the hair follicles shrink and sometimes stop producing hairs completely. This is because the hairs active hair growth phase (or anagen phase) becomes shorter as we get older and your hair follicles produce smaller, thinner and less visible hairs leading to thinning hair. If the growth phase stops completely the follicles will completely stop producing new hairs.

Men and women suffer from thinning and hair loss differently. For men the hair will recede, get thinner, they will start to get bald patches and eventually this can lead to total hair loss. For women they are more likely to have more thinning especially around the temples and crown and are much less likely to suffer from complete hair loss. Hair thinning can happen for many reasons

  • Male and female pattern baldness
  • Alopecia
  • Diet deficiencies
  • Vitamin deficiencies
  • Stress
  • Genetics
  • Hair style that put a lot of stress on the hair
  • Hormones (they change as we age, which is one of most common reasons for hair loss and thinning)

There is not a cure for hair loss or low density but there is a solution that has taken the world by storm!

Scalp micropigmentation has progressed over the years to help a wider range of clients from scar camouflage, completely hair loss and now thinning hair, but how does this work?

The procedure for scalp micropigmentation is similar to that of a tattoo. Pigment is implanted into the dermis to create an image. The image scalp micropigmentation makes is microdots that replicate the natural hair follicles in size and colour. By depositing these dots in between the thinning hairs, the contrast between the scalp and hair is reduced drastically making the hair appear fuller and thicker.

Some people can accept their hair loss and thinning. However, other people experience more difficulty dealing with it and even enter depression, associated with the chronic stress from their hair loss and thinning. People who experience hair loss usually feel as if they are losing control. They think that their hair loss is irreversible, so they experience high levels of anxiety. After just one session of scalp micropigmentation, you will no longer look like you are suffering from hair loss or low density. You can regain your self-confidence and say goodbye to anxiety and depression once and for all.
