University of Phoenix Meets Important Student Support Needs with Life Resource Center

Online portal facilitates immediate access to well-being resources

University of Phoenix established the Life Resource Center to provide confidential wellness services that support students in navigating life’s challenges, at no additional cost to students. The Life Resource Center now has an updated portal and features based on needs expressed by students and is a place for student health and well-being. Students can quickly access confidential counseling, 24-hour crisis help, peer support groups, financial consulting, life coaching, and on-demand tools to support healthy living.

Located in the Virtual Student Union and available through the MyPhoenixTM portal for current students, the Life Resource Center is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round. The online resource has a user-friendly interface with simple tiles intended to offer quick navigation to needed support. It is designed to help students manage obligations and find balance between work, school and life.

“We care about our students, and we know our students’ well-being is critical to their personal success,” said Mari Lopez, Vice President, Student Support & Specialty Services. “The Life Resource Center is meant to be there when students really need it and provides a unique support to get students help in the moment, right when they need it. Especially during the pandemic, we have seen an increase in students who experience challenges outside of their academic work, with mental and emotional well-being. Now we can connect them to care and support immediately.”

Although it is a virtual portal, the University’s Life Resource Center provides opportunities for human contact and connection as well as self-serve and on-demand resources, and scheduled wellness workshops.

Confidential counseling services include up to three face-to-face, video or telephonic counseling sessions, per unique incident, per year, for relationship and family issues, stress, anxiety, and other common challenges.

Mari Lopez shares, “Our students expressed interest in mental health resources as well as a need for counseling. Although it is a virtual portal, the Life Resource center is unique in offering the option of face-to-face counseling as well as virtual sessions.”

Financial consulting is a new feature available to all students. Students can access 30 consecutive days of free phone consultations for financial issues ranging from debt counseling, budgeting, and planning to taxes, as well as a discount on certified public accountant services.

The Life Resource Center puts the working adult student at the center of its focus. In addition to counseling and services, Peer Support Groups offer a unique lifeline for issues including addiction, depression, bipolar, anxiety, parenting, LGBTQ+, frontline workers, and grief. Life coaching can also be requested through this portal. Key components are tools specifically focused on stress assessment and management. Live webinars feature industry experts on wellness presenting monthly webinars on a variety of topics. On-demand tools include soft skills courses, health assessments to understand general health and wellbeing, videos on universal health topics, common legal forms, dietician-reviewed and nutritious recipes, and over 200 calculators for budgeting, home buying, investing and more.
