Rally Tuesday for Grand Falls-Windsor Municipal Employees

Municipal workers at the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor will hold a rally today, Tuesday, at 6:30 pm in front of Town Hall on High Street. Bargaining broke down last week for the employees, members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 1349, and they now have a strike mandate.

“The last thing our members want to see is a disruption of services,” states CUPE 1349 President Tammie Greening, “but we are beyond frustrated that the employer refuses to negotiate and continues to insist on concessions and control of our collective bargaining rights.

“Our goal is to achieve a contract that is fair to the workers and to the Town, and we wish the mayor and council were focused on fairness too.”

The union members will be joined at the rally by Sherry Hillier, president of CUPE Newfoundland and Labrador, Mary Shortall, president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour, and Alison Coffin, NL NDP President, along with supporters from the community and other unions. Everyone is encouraged to come out and show support for the employees, who deliver the vital town services residents depend on.
