Core Spaces Appoints Matthew Claeys to Lead Institutional Capital Raising

Core Spaces (“Core”), a leading vertically integrated real estate investment manager, today announced the hiring of Matthew Claeys as Managing Director, Head of Institutional Capital Raising. In this role, Claeys will focus on identifying and aligning with institutional investors across Core’s student housing and build-to-rent strategies, further expanding the company’s capital partnerships and enhancing its investment platform.

Since its founding in 2010, Core has succeeded in revolutionizing niche real estate housing sectors through innovative development and hospitality driven property management. Today, the company is an established leader in both student housing and build-to-rent sectors with over $5.7 billion in combined equity under management.

Core’s investment management platform leverages institutional-grade processes, refined by experienced professionals from diverse backgrounds. The addition of Claeys to lead the team comes as institutional investors increasingly seek sector-specific strategies with vertically integrated, best-in-class operators.

“We are thrilled to welcome Matthew to Core,” said John Wieker, Chief Investment Officer at Core Spaces. “His proven track record of fostering strong investor relationships will be instrumental as we develop investment solutions that match our investors needs and allow us to execute our strategic vision. Matthew’s leadership and strategic insight will further strengthen our ability to deliver strong outcomes for our investors, residents, and partners.”

Claeys is equally enthusiastic about the opportunity. “With the secular changes in the office sector, many investors are turning to niche property and living sectors to capitalize on the underlying trends driving growth. Core is uniquely positioned to offer investors direct access through its established investment and deployment expertise.”

Claeys brings with him over two decades of experience in the real estate investment industry. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President in Heitman’s Client Service & Marketing group, where he played a pivotal role in developing and maintaining relationships with institutional investors throughout the United States in private real estate equity, public real estate securities, and private real estate debt. His previous roles include leadership positions at Blue Vista Capital Management, where he was Director of Marketing and Client Services, and at Inland Institutional Capital Partners, where he served as Senior Vice President.

With his experience in capital raising and a strong understanding of real estate investment markets, Claeys will be instrumental in supporting Core’s future growth initiatives, including its continued expansion in the build-to-rent sector and its leadership in student housing.
