Susan G. Komen® Announces Upcoming Dates and Locations for New England MORE THAN PINK Walks

Events Kick Off in Manchester, VT on Saturday, October 5, 2024; Aim to Unite the Community for Breast Cancer Research and Support

Susan G. Komen®, the world’s leading breast cancer organization, today announced it will host three MORE THAN PINK Walks in New England this fall. The Komen MORE THAN PINK Walks – taking place in Manchester, VT, Cambridge, MA, and Hartford, CT – will bring together thousands of survivors, supporters and advocates to raise critical funds to advance Komen’s mission and provide support for people facing this disease now.

The upcoming MORE THAN PINK Walks in New England will take place:

  • Manchester, Vermont, Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024 at Northshire Civic Center – Hunter Park

    Register at: komen.org/vermontwalk

Funds raised at the MORE THAN PINK Walks will allow Komen to meet the immediate needs of breast cancer patients through its free Breast Care Helpline and offer services such as patient navigation, financial assistance and emotional support. The walks will also fund research breakthroughs that allow more lives to be saved from breast cancer and bring cures for all breast cancers closer.

Every 12 minutes, a woman in the U.S. dies from breast cancer. In 2024 alone, an estimated 670 women in Vermont will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 80 will lose their lives to the disease, 7,150 women in Massachusetts will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 730 will lose their lives to the disease, and 3,790 women in Connecticut will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 420 will lose their lives to the disease. Experts say one-third of breast cancer deaths in the U.S. could be prevented with universal access to modern treatments.

In Fiscal Year 2024, the Komen Financial Assistance program provided $346,000 to 593 people in Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut who were in breast cancer treatment or living with metastatic breast cancer. Komen’s Patient Care Center additionally helped 792 people in the three states who were experiencing barriers to the breast health care or support they needed.

"We are thrilled to be hosting three MORE THAN PINK Walks in New England this fall, where together we can make a profound impact in the fight against breast cancer," said Nicole Marohn, Executive Director at Susan G. Komen. "Supporting individuals in our communities who are facing breast cancer is essential to our mission, but we cannot do it alone. These Walks are not just events; they are pivotal moments to secure vital funds that will make equitable care available to all as we take a powerful stand against this devastating disease."

Bank of America is the national presenting sponsor and Walgreens, Novartis and Lily are national series sponsors for the MORE THAN PINK Walk and Race for the Cure events.
