Winnipeg Vape Shop Informs Customers About The Federal Vape Tax Increase

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA: Cold Turkey Vape Shop, a vape shop based in Winnipeg that sells vape products online throughout Canada, wants consumers to know about the increase in the federal excise tax on vaping products.

As of July 1st, 2024, the federal excise tax, commonly known as the vape tax, increased by 12%. The current  excise tax is as follows:

  • $1.12 per 2 millilitres (mL) for the first 10 mL of e-liquid.
  • $1.12  for every additional 10mL of e-liquid.

This is an increase from the previous excise tax, which was:

  • $1 per 2 millilitres (mL) for the first 10 mL of e-liquid
  • $1 for every additional 10mL of e-liquid.

There is an additional vape tax for consumers living in Ontario, Quebec, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. The Government of Canada has released a draft allowing other provinces to split revenue with the federal government by doubling the excise tax. This may be implemented as early as January 1st, 2025.

“Despite the increase in taxes, vaping remains a more affordable alternative to cigarettes,” said a representative for Cold Turkey Vape Shop. “This will remain the case even if the Government of Manitoba coordinates with the Government of Canada to double the effective excise tax. Consumers looking to save should consider buying their vaping products in bulk ahead of January 1st, 2025. Vaping products have a very long shelf life, and purchasing in advance could save consumers money.

Cold Turkey Vape Shop started as a one-shop operation in Winnipeg, dedicated to helping grow the fledgling vape market as an alternative to cigarettes. Today, it has 7 locations throughout Winnipeg, as well as an online store. In addition to selling nicotine vaping products, it has recently expanded into the glass art community, offering hand-blown glass made by local artists throughout North America. They have also begun carrying quality cannabis accessories and vaporizers.
