London SPAIRE Hip Replacement Surgery For Improved Mobility, Report Update

MSK Doctors, a specialist clinic for advanced regenerative medicine and surgical techniques, has updated its information on the SPAIRE hip DAA procedure, to include data from recent research on post-operative mobility, pain management, and the return to normal activities.

Although the “common knowledge” on hip replacement surgery suggests that almost all patients will be placed under mobility restrictions, with extensive healing times, this is not always true. A new report from MSK Doctors explores how the SPAIRE technique allows for a faster recovery, with fewer restrictions, and improved overall mobility.

More information about the SPAIRE hip DAA technique, faster recovery times, and appointments with MSK Doctors hip specialists can be found at https://mskdoctors.com

The SPAIRE technique has been growing in popularity in recent years, due to the potential for minimising harm during the surgical process, and the wide range of benefits that can include. Professor Paul Lee, the MSK Doctors hip and knee specialist, explains that this new procedure uses a unique approach that avoids causing damage to several important muscles and tendons in the client’s hip.

These muscles and tendons are often damaged during the surgery, leading to months of slow recovery, and common mobility restrictions against bending, rotating, or twisting the wrong way. However, with SPAIRE they can be left almost fully undamaged, allowing clients to begin practising standing and walking with crutches, nearly immediately after their operation.

The new report includes information from several clinical studies on the SPAIRE technique, suggesting that the procedure can also reduce post-operative pain, recovery times, and dislocation risks.¹ One recent study also shows that when compared to a standard lateral approach hip replacement surgery, the SPAIRE technique shows an increased likelihood of helping clients return to their full, pre-operative levels of mobility.²

However, while the SPAIRE technique offers important benefits over a standard lateral approach, MSK Doctors also highlights a new procedure called the BIKINI approach. This technique uses similar muscle and tendon-saving techniques, but also works to reduce the visible scarring caused by the procedure.

While it is unlikely that a hip replacement can be completed with no scarring, research suggests that a surgeon experienced with the BIKINI technique can hide the visible scarring in the client's bikini line. Although SPAIRE is considered the most effective technique for reducing surgical trauma, BIKINI has also been shown to reduce blood loss, and lead to reduced recovery times.

Before scheduling a surgery, clients are encouraged to talk to a specialist about their options, and which techniques may be best suited to their personal needs and anatomy. Appointments can be made with no GP referral, and no waiting list, on the MSK Doctors website.
