Dennis Cawthorne Relaunches “Mackinac Island: Inside, Up Close, and Personal,” and Shares Endearing Memories From Fifty-Years of Residence on the Island

By: WebWire

Mackinac Island is located where Lakes Michigan and Huron come together, between the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of Michigan. Mackinac Island State Park includes trails, woodlands, and the limestone Arch Rock formation and covers most of Mackinac Island. You also have Fort Mackinac, a walled collection of military fortifications on a high cliff overlooking Lake Huron constructed in 1780. It also features Native American paintings, maps, and 19th-century photographs among the pieces on display at the Richard and Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum. The island also features dozens of Victorian homes and the world's largest summer hotel.

In “Mackinac Island: Inside, Up Close, and Personal, 2022 Edition,” Dennis Cawthorne takes readers on a one-of-a-kind journey through the history of the magnificent Mackinac Island.

Dennis and his fifty-year residence on the fabled northern Michigan resort island delivers a vivid, engaging, and thorough account of the social, economic, and political events that have formed Mackinac Island over the previous 50 years. A sentimental and genuine behind-the-scenes glimpse--the book reads like an amalgam between a history book, a memoir, and a chronicle. It highlights the author's background as a carriage driver, chamber of commerce manager, state politician, restaurant, attorney, legislative champion, and member and chairman of the Mackinac Island State Park Commission for over twenty years.

The book is an informative and entertaining narrative that presents Mackinac Island from a different perspective. Although the book also talks about the history and architectural masterpieces on the island, Dennis offers more by retelling his candid recollections as a resident and political figure who called Mackinac Island home for over fifty years.

Dennis writes the book and elicits memories from people who have been on the island. He also takes readers on a journey that shows its changes, progress, and contributions to history.

Compelling, heartfelt, and educating--this book is a must-read.
