Imported Bouncing Toys Recalled Due to Lead Hazards

By: WebWire

Last month, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of hundreds of imported bouncy toys that were sold from November of 2018 through March of 2019. Paint on the yellow metal poles children hold onto as they use the product contain lead levels that exceed the federal lead content ban.

The bouncy toys were made in China and imported by a company based in Utah. The product was sold online through the company's website and by major online retailers. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled toys and to contact the company for information on how to properly dispose of the yellow poles and to receive free replacement poles.

In the United States and Canada there are regulations to protect children from lead and other heavy metal exposure risks in toys and other products. It is important that people are not exposed to elevated levels of lead as it can affect nearly every system in the human body, and children are especially vulnerable.

“No safe blood lead level in children has been identified according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “Even with the regulations in place meant to protect our youth, each year, there are number of children's toys that are recalled. This is particularly true with imported toys and this recall is a reminder for companies that import, distribute and retail products from overseas to be aware of this risk and to have their products tested.”

EMSL Analytical, with laboratories across the United States and Canada, is here to help these companies with product testing for lead, other heavy metals, and regulated chemicals. These testing services protect consumers and help companies avoid the high costs associated with product recalls.
